Three Stooges Take on the Axis Powers

The Three Stooges (Moe Howard, Larry Fine, and Curly Howard) are coming to Littleton on Friday, July 26, 2019. Dan Schroeder will present his show “The Three Stooges Take on the Axis Powers” sponsored by the Littleton Area Historical Society. The event will take place at 6:30 p.m. in the Grand Hall of the Littleton Opera House. Admission is by donation. In 1940, the Stooges released a Jules White/Columbia Pictures film entitled, “You Nazty Spy,” which hilariously parodies Hitler’s Nazi regime. Moe plays the Hitler character, Leader Hailstone, Curly is Field Marshall Gallstone, and Larry is Minister of Propaganda Pebble. The story takes place in the fictional country of Moronika, and also includes such characters as “Mattie Herring.” American audiences enjoyed the movie immensely. Adolf Hitler also saw the film, but was not so pleased. In fact, after watching the movie, the Nazi leader issued a death warrant for the Stooges. This whole incident is made all the more bizarre because the Stooges were Jewish. Humor took a dark turn. Dan Schroeder, a self -confessed “Stoogeaholic,” has given his presentation throughout New England. Mr. Schroeder will be available to answer any and all questions concerning the three masters of slapstick comedy. The 26th will be an evening of unrestrained laughter underscored by the specter of Nazism.
