Job Description
The primary responsibilities of the Financial Manager involve the tracking, processing, and reporting that surround WMSI’s non-profit financial systems. The position requires coordination across all departments, including assistance in financial tracking according to the needs of respective department directors. Additionally, the Financial Manager plays a key role in human resources tasks, including payroll processing, administration of benefits, and administrative coordination of WMSI’s part-time and temporary employees.

White Mountain Science is a 501c3 non-profit organization based in Littleton, NH.

Duties Will Include:

  • Generation of accurate and timely financial reports and analyses 

  • Management of federal, state and private grant accounting responsibilities

  • Reconciliation of various general ledger accounts in a timely manner

  • Preparation & posting of monthly journal entries for a variety of accounts

  • Management of accounts payable & accounts receivable

  • Processing of payroll on a bi-weekly basis

  • Documenting of financial practices and procedural changes

  • Support of donor-related campaigns

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • BS degree in Accounting preferred

  • 2 years experience in a non-profit setting at a staff accountant level (or equivalent) preferred

  • 2 years experience in non-profit Quickbooks online, including fund accounting preferred

  • Ability to manage sensitive information in a highly confidential manner

  • Working knowledge of the principles and practices of accounting and general business demonstrated by a high quality of work

  • Attention to detail with the ability to think critically, identify issues, and resolve discrepancies

  • Strong communication and organizational skills

  • Exhibits a growth mindset and looks to refine and improve financial systems in innovative ways

  • Ability to thrive both independently and in a team-based environment

  • An interest in STEM and/or youth education preferred

This is a part time position, generally 16-20 hours per week.

Hourly rate commensurate with experience.

Physical Exertion Environmental Conditions: 
Required to sit for extended periods of time, stand frequently, use fine motor skills to operate equipment, and lift and/or move 40 pounds or less
