Dr. Richard J. Schilling Community Fly Fishing Celebration
Schilling Beer Co. is proud to partner with Trout Unlimited and Chutters Candy to stage the First Annual Dr. Richard J. Schilling Community Fly Fishing Celebration on Saturday, October 14th. The event will focus on introducing children and beginners to the sport of fly fishing, and instilling in them an appreciation for the river, as "Opa" has provided to us, as well as the confidence to take up the sport. We share his belief that when people slow down and appreciate the great blessing of natural beauty that we enjoy in the North Country, it makes their lives and their communities much healthier.
The event on October 14th will have three components:
In the morning, Trout Unlimited will partner with local guides, including Paul Starring of Grid North Guide Service, and fly-fishing expert Sean Doll to host a stream-side Casting Clinic for kids and adult beginners. There will be two Free Sessions: from 9:00 – 10:15 AM and from 10:30 – 11:15 AM. Loaner rods from Trout Unlimited will be available to anyone needing them. There will be booths displaying Basic Fly Rod Set-up, Fly Tying, Entomology and Stream Restoration, along with Vendor tables.
The afternoon will feature the First Annual Ammonoosuc Three-Fly Team Challenge, a Catch & Release Fly Fishing Tournament from 12:30 to 5:00 PM with prizes donated by local merchants. Each two-person team may use two flies of their choice, as well as Dr. Schilling's favorite Northern Michigan fly, the Brown and White Bivisible! Winners will have their names displayed on a Plaque within Schilling Beer Co. and forever be part of North Country Fly Fishing Lore!
Registration for the Tournament is $70 per two-person team
Please Register Early, Only 15 Team Slots Available
Following the tournament, Schilling will host a dinner at the Brewery beginning at 6:00 PM, followed by a silent auction. The dinner will feature appetizers, a wood-fired pizza buffet and a cash bar featuring Schilling beer, local hard cider and wine. Money raised will benefit the Dr. Richard J. Schilling Scholarship Fund. This will be used to send area children to the NH Council of Trout Unlimited's Trout Camp during the summer where they will learn about fly-fishing, trout habitat, and cold-water conservation. Funds will also be raised for equipment and supplies for Trout Camp. The Ammonoosuc Chapter of Trout Unlimited will also benefit from this event.
